Check out Anachronauts, a free webnovel by Stefan Gagne
It's a mashup of many a genre and setting, and it's doing it pretty damn well. Give it a shot, it's well worth reading.

I had the idea to start up a character study type of thing for one of the protagonists of the novel. Instead of that, I just made a single boring front facing portrait and kept detailing the clothing like an idiot. Eh, it was good practice in soft shading, which is something I don't do very often. Probably not very good, but I can look back at it later and see how much I (didn't) improve. Yay.
Yes, I know that light wouldn't really work like that, but I  felt like playing around and was influenced by a certain style I'm getting exposed to lately. Besides. Magic. Or something.

The original deal was that there would be summer on the left and winter on the right, but that kinda fell trough. I've got something more fun to draw (something with chainsaws... yummy), and my free time suddenly plummeted by a good deal, so prioritizing is important. I'll just call it "done" and not linger.
